No different from any other year, the list of upcoming ballad songs for the Fall of 2011 seems heavily packed. The list of ballads include female duo, Davichi, Sung Shi Kyung, who is releasing his first album after his military service discharge and Huh Gak, the contestant and the winner of ‘Superstar K2‘. These ballad singers and their songs have been getting impressive results on various music charts despite the continuous comebacks of trending popular girl groups.
◆100% Unpretentiously charming, Huh Gak
The winner from ‘Superstar K2′ Huh Gak, has been unable to hide his excitement lately. As soon as his official debut song ‘Hello‘ was released, it reached the top spot on various music charts, achieving an all-kill status.
This achievement is especially notable considering the fact that many trending idol groups and numerous ballad singers came back on television at the same time as he did. This also allowed him to shine the most out of any of the contestants from ‘Superstar K’.
‘Hello‘ is a very sentimental song which fully expresses one’s emotions while painfully dealing with letting go of a loved one who’s already left. With Huh Gak‘s magnificent vocal range and ability to put full emotion to a song, many have been sensationally and personally touched by ‘Hello’, causing listeners to closely relate to the lyrics.
A staff member from his entertainment company A Cube has stated and agreed that Huh Gak‘s outstanding singing ability has definitely differentiated his song and gathered public recognition.
◆Return of the ‘soft, ballad prince’, Sung Shi Kyung
A man who suits perfectly to the beautiful days of autumn, Sung Shi Kyung as well, has been displaying his strong popularity as a ballad singer. Exactly 1 year and 7 months after discharging from military service, his newly released 7th album ‘First‘ and the popularity of its tracks on music charts have been making the public take notice that the “ballad prince” has returned.
Especially the title track “I’m okay“, which Sung Shi Kyung has personally written, has a very strong feel to his individual style. With beautiful piano melodies and the unique and soothing voice of his were combined together to create an outstanding harmony. In the lyrics, he has wrote honest and sincere words in perspective of a man who tells his ex-lover “I’ve been waiting, it’s still okay to come back to me.”
Ballad is no doubt, a genre that makes Sung Shi Kyung stand out and shine, and the reason for public’s strong interest and support for him is because he has returned at the right time with just right songs.
◆ ‘Targeting the girl group market’ Fabulous female vocal duos, Davichi
There is nothing Davichi should be envious of from their fellow idol girl groups, returning with their new album ‘Love Delight’ after 1 year and 4 months of hiatus. On the 18th of this month, Davichi‘s new title song “Don’t say goodbye” received the award of ‘Mutizen’ on SBS‘s ‘Inkigayo‘. On top of that, Davichi constantly has been ranking among the top on various online music charts.
The title song “Don’t say goodbye” is a ballad song which a listener can easily feel Davichi‘s own individual style and color. The lyrics tells a sad story of a girl telling a man leaving to “not say goodbye”.
Davichi‘s strongest charm is their distinguished singing skills. Different and unique from idol girl groups who focus mainly on dancing, they always approach the public with a different musical tactic in the extremely competitive music industry. Davichi‘s member Kang Min Kyung has recently stated in an interview, “We would like to represent ourselves only with our vocal abilities. With our skills, we will try to successfully approach the music market.”
